span'nər-tāte, the sweethearts of the London acoustic music scene, perform international folk, whimsical fancies, folked up rock and original compositions with theatrical tragedy and satire. Their delicately woven ethereal harmonies bring an intimacy to gigs reminiscent of fairy-tale landscapes. Prepare to be taken on a journey.
Camberwell Fair 2015
span'nər-tāte emerged in 2013 after having shared the stage as members of the festival favourite psychedelic party band Spanner Jazz Punks. Dan Spanner is a sax playing musical survivor with a performance style and ethos honed during his time with outfits such as Webcore, Ring of Roses, Another Green World, Thunderdogs (who became the house band for Circus Archaos), Spannerman, and the afore mentioned Spanner Jazz Punks. Helen Tate, whose background is in theatre, music and movement, first took to the stage with the Jazz Punks after an impromptu on mic interjection during a performance, after which she was invited to join the band. Working her way in by adding increasing amounts of violin to the largely horn based sound, and eventually sharing vocals and co fronting the band. Wanting to explore this interplay further, between them they created a duo surging with surreal narratives, musical intimacy and unusual interpretation.
